Recently released March 2022 solar generation data shows a continued surge in U.S. solar generation

March 2022 utility-scale solar generation in the U.S. was +28% versus last year

March 2022 utility-scale solar generation in the U.S. was +800% versus eight years ago

We look at the location and capacity factors of the top-25 U.S. solar plants and the location of the 25 plants showing the largest generation increase over the last twelve months

Sunny-Side Up

U.S. utility-scale solar generation continues to move up and to the right

March solar generation is up 8x in 8 years

The location of the top-25 solar plants in the U.S. are highlighted below

Capacity factors for these plants average 27% over the last year versus the U.S. average of 20%

Perhaps surprisingly, solar plant in Georgia made the list

Notably, only one U.S. solar plant did more than 1 million megawatthours compared to 57 U.S. wind farms generating at least that amount

The top-25 plants based on largest increase versus last year highlight the emerging growth in Texas solar with 11 of 25 plants in that state

But is also highlights the shifting nature of solar placement with Georgia, Ohio, Virginia and even Alabama in the mix
